Box Score The Centre volleyball team fought back after dropping its first two games, but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 3-2 to Asbury College on Senior Night on Tuesday in Danville, Ky.
Asbury pulled out a hard-fought first game 29-27, and took the second game 25-21. Centre stormed back to take the third game 25-20 and ran away with the fourth 25-13. In the decisive fifth game, Centre held a late 13-9 lead and served for the match at 14-13, but was unable to hold on as Asbury came back to win 16-14.
Prior to the match, seniors Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.), Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) Evis Muhameti (Boston, Mass.) and Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) were honored for their contributions over their careers.
Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) had 13 kills and five blocks while Woeste had 12 kills, four blocks and two aces. Suzanne Asbury had seven kills, three aces and 11 blocks, which ties for the second most for a Centre player in a single match. Hench contributed eight kills, 16 digs, six blocks and an ace while Greer added 43 assists, 11 digs and four kills.
Centre falls to 13-15 with the loss while Asbury improves to 29-4. The Colonels will next travel to Atlanta, Ga. for the SCAC East Inter-Pod where they will take on Birmingham Southern and Oglethorpe on Saturday.
