Box Score The Centre College field hockey team continues to play well, winning its fifth straight match with a 4-1 victory over Hendrix College Sunday, Oct. 2 at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
With the win, the Colonels improve to 7-3 overall and remain unbeaten in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play at 3-0. Hendrix falls to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Centre's Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) put the Colonels on the board first with her second goal of the season at the 29:21 mark in the first half.
The Warriors answered with a goal from Kelly Rappe off an assist from Maggie Des Pain with 26:37 left in the opening period.
Junior Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) gave Centre the lead for good with her first of two goals at the 23:19 mark in the first half for a 2-1 lead. Senior Anna Fuller (Cincinnati, Ohio) had her first assist of the season on the score.
Jessee then scored again in the second half, her fifth of the season, off an assist from sophomore Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.). It was Kuiper's third assist of the year.
Junior Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) capped the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 20:59 mark in the second half. The goal was Parks' fourth of the year.
Hendrix out-shot Centre 14-13 and had a 5-4 advantage in penalty corners, but senior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) made 11 saves in goal for the Colonels.
Centre will take to the road Friday, Oct. 7 to play Sewanee-University of the South. The SCAC match is set to start at 4 p.m. in Sewanee, Tenn.
