Box Score The Centre field hockey team went on the road
for a non-conference match Thursday, dropping
a 7-3 decision to NCAA Division II opponent Bellarmine in
Louisville, Ky.
The Colonels were first to get on the board
with Alexis Hebert
(Chapel Hill, N.C.) scoring her first goal of the season by
redirecting a pass from Barbara Parks
(Chapel Hill, N.C.) into the back of the cage. The assist was a
team-high seventh on the season for Parks.
Bellarmine quickly tied the score on a
Brittany Raque goal a minute later, then took a 3-1 lead to
halftime after a pair of goals by Rachael McAllister.
Centre fought back at the beginning of the
second half as Courtney
Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) and Erin Bacon
(Williamsburg, Va.) scored unassisted goals to tie the game at 3-3.
The goals were the sixth of the season for each.
The three goals were all Centre would manage
on the evening, however, as Bellarmine's Rachael Walz, Alex Ojeda,
Lauren Schmeing and Dezirae Hall scored four unanswered goals to
pull away for the 7-3 victory.
Overall, Bellarmine outshot the Colonels 25-10
for the match and held a 13-4 advantage in penalty corners. Centre
senior goalkeeper Patty Cowley
(Louisville, Ky.) made nine saves in the loss.
With the loss Centre falls to 9-5 on the
season while Bellarmine improves to 9-4. The Colonels return to
action Sunday when they host Transylvania at noon.
