Field hockey falls 3-2 to Rhodes in final minute

Box Score

With both teams atop the SCAC standings with 3-1 records going into the final weekend of play, a goal by Rhodes' Katie Faucher with one minute to play broke the tie on the scoreboard and in the league standings.

It was Rhodes which got of the board first, taking the lead 13 minutes in on a goal by Sarah Ferguson. Rhodes took that 1-0 lead to the half, then later extended it to 2-0 on a Regan McLaughlin goal early in the second half.

Centre responded after falling in the 2-0 hole as Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an assist from Erin Bacon (Williamsburg, Va.) minutes later. Less than a minute after Kuiper's goal, the Colonels tied the score on an unassisted goal by Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) with 20:48 to play.

Senior goalkeeper Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) made eight saves in the loss while Jordan Robinson of Rhodes had six saves. Rhodes took 19 shots to Centre's 13 and held a 17-7 edge in penalty corners.

Centre falls to 10-6 overall and second place in the SCAC with a 3-2 record while Rhodes improves to 11-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The SCAC closes out regular season play Sunday when Centre travels to Hendrix and Rhodes hosts Sewanee.
