Box Score After having its five-game win streak broken Friday, the Centre field hockey team responded with a 5-1 win over Roanoke on Saturday in Sewanee, Tenn.
Though Centre took 32 shots to Roanoke's 16, it was just before halftime when the Colonels finally got on the board with an unassisted goal by Erin Bacon (Williamsburg, Va.) with 3:55 to play.
Centre took a 1-0 lead to halftime, then broke the game open in the second half, beginning when Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) scored three minutes in on an assist from Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.).
Ten minutes later, Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) made the score 3-0 on an unassisted goal, and Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) followed by scoring her team-leading sixth goal of the season on an assist from Sydney White (Louisville, Ky).
Jessica McLean (St. Louis, Mo.) capped the Colonels' scoring on an unassisted goal, making the score 4-0 with 4:19 remaining. As time ran down, Kelly Finn scored Roanoke's lone goal.
Centre goalkeeper Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) made six saves in the win.
With the win, Centre's record stands at 8-4 overall with a 3-1 mark in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play as the team prepares for a non-conference match Friday at Trine.
