Two Centre football players accounted for three spots on the 2011 D3football.com All-South Region Team, which was released by the organization Monday.
After a season in which Centre picked up the program's first NCAA Division III Playoff win, senior left tackle Ben Hume (Lexington, Ky.) was named First Team All-South Region while junior kicker/punter Jordan Gay (Danville, Ky.) was selected to the second team as a kicker and the third team as a punter.
Hume, who was a Third Team All-South Region pick a year ago and has three All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference selections to his credit, was the anchor of an offensive line that paved the way for the top scoring offense in the SCAC at 33.4 points per game. The Colonels' balanced attack averaged 189.4 yards per game on the ground and 172.9 yards through the air.
Gay receives his first all-region selections after being named the SCAC's first-team kicker, punter and Special Teams Player of the Year. Gay ranked seventh in the nation at 41.5 yards per punt while landing 14 inside the 20. As a kicker, he made a school record 45 of 46 extra point attempts and 11 of 16 field goals with a long of 51 yards.
The Colonels finished 9-2 on the season, second in the SCAC and were ranked No. 16 in the season's final D3football.com Poll. Centre won 51-41 in a first round playoff game over Hampden-Sydney, before eventually falling 30-10 to No. 2 Mount Union.
