Taking part in their second match of the 2011 season, the Centre women's tennis team played Bellarmine University close, but the Colonels were unable to win the match falling 7-2 on Friday, February 25 in Louisville, Ky.
Freshman Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.), who was playing as the number one singles player, beating Rebecca Porter in an exciting match. Hays won in three sets 6-0, 4-6, 10-4.
Junior Katy Bender (Galena, Ohio) played well in the number three singles match against Jamie Claeys, but she came up short 5-7, 7-5, 10-5.
Senior Sarah Swauger (Fort Thomas, Ky.) had an outstanding match, but she ended up falling to Keyly Knechtel in the number five singles match 26, 6-4, 10-6.
During doubles play sophomore Elise Decamp (Lexington, Ky.) and Bender picked up the second win for the Colonels, as they were playing as the number two team. Decamp and Bender beat Emily Roebker and Claeys 8-6.
Next up for Centre will be a match against Campbellsville University on Saturday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m. in Campbellsville, Ky.
