Women's lacrosse beats Agnes Scott 16-4

The Centre women's lacrosse team won their second straight match on Sunday, February 27 as they beat Agnes Scott 16-4 in Decatur, Ga.

Alicia Logan scored the first goal of the game to put Agnes Scott up 1-0 early in the first half of play.

The Colonels scored their first goal 6:20 into the game, as freshman Frances Fisher (Ijamsvile, Md.) was able to find the back of the cage on a free position shot.

Centre went onto score the next nine goals to take the 10-1 lead with 5:57 remaining in the first half of action. Freshman Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) recorded five of the nine goals, while freshman Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) posted three.

The Scotties were able to score one more goal before heading into the break to make it a 10-2 game.

In the first half of play the Colonels recorded 17 shots and had 18 ground balls. Agnes Scott was held to five shots in the first half and they picked up 15 ground balls. Centre won eight of the 13 draws. The Colonels were 1-1 on clears, while the Scotties were 3-6. Centre had four extra-player opportunities and converted on two of the attempts.

Freshman goalkeeper Lauren Esterle (Louisville, Ky.) recorded two saves in the first half of action.

During the second half of play the Colonels scored four straight goals over the first eight minutes of play to extend their lead to 14-2.

Logan scored her third goal of the game for the Scotties at the 21:47 mark to cut the score to 14-3.

The Colonels wouldn't back down, scoring the next two goals. Freshman Claiborne Willis (Nashville, Tenn.) recorded the final two goals helping Centre to take the 16-3 advantage.

Carolyn Mahoney scored the final goal of the game with 10:27 remaining in the game to put the final score at 16-4.

Centre had 16 shots in the second half of play, while also recording 11 ground balls. Agnes Scott had seven shot opportunities and posted seven ground balls. The Colonels won six of the nine draws and went two for two in clears. The Scotties were only successful on two of their seven clear attempts.

Esterle picked up her second collegiate win as the goalkeeper, recording four saves on the afternoon.

Hawthorne had five goals on five shots, she recorded five ground balls, and went 5-6 on draws. Fisher posted three goals in the win on five shots, she had five ground balls, and went 1-1 on draws. Mastey recorded three goals on six shot attempts, she had seven ground balls, and went 8-14 on draws. Willis also had two goals on three shots and had two ground-balls.

Logan led the Scotties offensively as she had three goals on seven shots, grabbing four ground balls, while going 5-15 on draws.

Next up for Centre will be a game against Missouri-Baptist on Friday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky. The game will be played at Farris Stadium.
