Colonels drops two games on final day of March Mayhem Tournament

During the second day of the March Mayhem Tournament, the Centre softball team, who host the event, lost to Manchester in the first game 10-8 and then they fell to Rose-Hulman 6-2 in the second game on Sunday, March 13 in Danville, Ky. Centre is now 5-3 on the season.

Manchester opened the game scoring the first three runs of the game in the top of the first inning.

The Colonels came back in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 3-3. Sophomore's Emily Meador (Scottsville, Ky.) and Ashley Coomer (Greensburg, Ky.), as well as freshman Bekah Davis (Versailles, Ky.) each scored a run.

Manchester make it a 10-3 game after they scored two runs in the third, four in the fifth, and one in the sixth.

Centre made a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, as they scored five runs, but they were unable to hold the momentum, as Manchester was able to get the third out before the Colonels could at least tie the game, ending the game with a score of 10-8.

Sophomore Mary Saylor (Brodhead, Ky.), Meador, sophomore Chelsea Benham (Taswell, Ind.), freshman Ashley Christian (Kingsport, Tenn.), and Coomer each scored in the seventh inning.

Christian finished the game with four RBI's, three hits, and one run in four at bats.

Meador pitched four innings for the Colonels giving up six hits and five runs, while not allowing a walk. She struck out two in 19 batters faced.

Sophomore Emily Landherr (Louisville, Ky.) finished the final three innings allowing four hits, five runs, and two walks. She also struck out two players in 17 batters faced.

In the Colonels game against Rose-Hulman, the Fighting Engineers went ahead 4-1 following three innings of play.

Centre got on the board in the fourth inning when junior Regina Sena (Moss Beach, Calif.) hit a home run and Saylor scored on a Benham double.

Rose-Hulman then went on to score a run in the fifth and the sixth to take the 6-2 win.

Sena, Saylor, Benham, and senior Sara Hall (Canal Winchester, Ohio) each had a hit in the game.

Landherr pitched three innings allowing seven hits, four runs, and three hits, while striking out two in 19 batters faced.

Meador saw action in four innings, where she gave up five hits and two runs. No one from Rose-Hulman walked and Meador had one strike-out in 19 batters faced.

Next up for the Colonels will be a double-header against Asbury at home in Danville, Ky. The first pitch is set to be thrown out at 5:30 p.m.
