Box Score Having lost the first two games of the series, the Centre College baseball team dropped the third game 8-1 to No. 9 Birmingham Southern College Sunday, March 20 at Gary Wright Field in Danville, Ky.
With the loss, the Colonels fall to 6-12 overall and 0-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), while the Panthers improve to 17-3 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Birmingham Southern roughed up Centre starting pitcher Kyle Neu (Cincinnati, Ohio) early scoring a pair of runs in the first inning and six more in the second on seven hits and and three errors for an early 8-0 lead.
The Colonels got a run-scoring single from senior first baseman Steven Proctor (Springfield, Ga.) in the third to make it an 8-1 game, and four Centre relievers combined to throw 7.2 innings of scoreless baseball, but the Colonels' offense was unable to put any more runs on the board.
Neu, a freshman, allowed eight runs - five earned - on seven hits in 1.1 innings of work to fall to 0-3.
Junior catcher Cameron Fishman (Northridge, Calif.) tallied two of the Colonels' five hits on the day going two for four at the plate.
Centre will take to the road Tuesday, March 22 to play Piedmont College. The non-conference game is set to start at 7 p.m. in Demorest, Ga.
