Men's lacrosse loses to Colorado College

The Centre men's lacrosse team took on the best team in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on Monday, March 21 at home in Danville, Ky. and the Colonels were unable to pull off the upset as they lost 21-1. Centre is 1-4 on the season and 0-2 in the SCAC.

Colorado College opened the game being very physical and would carry that edge through out the game.

The Tigers scored five goals in the first quarter of play, before taking a 11-0 lead into halftime.

Freshman goalkeeper Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) made some big saves in the first 30 minutes of play to not let the game get too out of hand.

During the first two quarters Centre got six shots, six ground-balls, and they went 8-10 on clears, while only causing three turnovers. Colorado had 24 shots, 19 ground-balls, and they were successful on nine of their 10 clear attempts. The Tigers had one turnover. Centre won 4-15 face-offs.

Brown had seven saves in the first two quarters.

Centre continued to play hard in the third period of play, but Colorado was able to pick up nine more goals to extend their lead to 20-0.

In the fourth quarter Colorado scored one more goal, before freshman Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) was able to find the back of the cage with 3:57 left in the game.

The Colonels had a couple more chances to cut into the Tigers lead, but the game would end with a final score of 21-1.

Centre had eight shots, six ground-balls, and went 7-8 in clears during the final two periods of play. Colorado posted 17 shots, 11 ground-balls, and went 6-7 on clear attempts. The Colonels had three turnovers, while the Tigers recorded four. During the 11 face-offs in the third and fourth quarters the Colonels won three.

Brown finished the game with a total of eight saves.

Sophomore Scott Hughes (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the team in shots with five and freshman Charles Ambrose (Misenheimer, N.C.) recorded four ground-balls.

Carson Christman led Colorado in scoring with four goals on six shots, while also recording one assist. Will Harris had eight ground-balls and Ian Coughlan and Zach Hoisington each had one caused turnover.

Next up for the Colonels will be a home game against Berry College at 4:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
