Centre men's lacrosse drops game to Berry

The Centre men's lacrosse team faced Berry College on Friday, March 25 at home in Danville, Ky. and the Colonels lost to the Vikings by a score of 13-5. Centre is 1-5 on the season and 0-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Berry took the 1-0 lead to start the game on a Cal Supik goal with 9:16 remaining in the first quarter of play.

Shortly after the Supik goal Freshman Andrew Holmgren (Franklin, Tenn.) was able to find the back of the cage to tie the game at 1-1.

Bryan Byers scored the next two goals for the Vikings to take the 3-1 advantage with 3:33 on the clock.

Freshman Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) was able to get the ball past Jordan Boreman to pick up the final goal of the first quarter.

During the second 15 minutes of play Berry built up a 7-2 advantage. The Vikings headed into the break with the five goal advantage.

In the first two quarters of play both Berry and Centre had 17 shots. Centre had a 12-11 advantage in ground-balls. Berry had the advantage in face-offs, as they went 7-13. The Colonels went 11-14 on clear attempts, while the Vikings were 11-13.

Freshman Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) posted nine saves for Centre in the first two quarters of play. Jordan Boreman had seven saves.

Berry opened the third period by scoring three goals to go ahead 10-2.

The Colonels were able to get on the board in the third period when freshman Harry Meisner (Wyoming, Ohio) put the ball in the back of the cage with 3:24 on the clock to make it a 10-3 game.

The Vikings also posted the first goal of the fourth period, but Centre responded as freshman Patrick Vaughn (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) and Stubbs scored to make it a 11-5 game.

Berry picked up two more goals before the game ended to take the 13-5 win.

Centre had 18 shots and ground-balls in the final two quarters of the game. The Colonels also had the 9-11 advantage on the face-offs. Centre went 8-12 on clears. Berry grabbed seven ground-balls and went 3-9 on clear attempts.

Stubbs recorded four saves in the final 30 minutes of play, as Boreman had 10.

Vaughn grabbed seven ground-balls for the Colonels on the evening and freshman Charles Edwards (Louisville, Ky.) had one caused turnover.

Michael Emanuelo recorded four of Berry's goals on six shots. Brandon French and Byers each had two ground-balls.

Next up for the Colonels will be a game against Aurora at 2:00 p.m. at home in Danville, Ky. on Sunday, March 27.
