Box Score The Centre men's lacrosse team was unable to come away with a win over Aurora on Sunday, March 27 in Danville, Ky., as they fell 11-4. The Colonels are 1-6 on the season and 0-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Aurora scored three goals in the first period. Jack Meachum found the back of the cage twice and Justin Bose recorded the other goal.
The Spartans took a 4-0 lead with 11:16 remaining in the second period.
Freshman Corey Krill (Louisville, Ky.) put the Colonels on the board when he was able to get the ball past Adam Holka with 2:44 left to play before halftime.
Aurora went into the break with the 4-1 advantage. During the first half of play Centre had four shots, seven ground-balls, and they were successful on 9-12 clear attempts. Aurora had 29 shots, 18 ground-balls, and they were 11-13 on clear attempts. The Spartans had the 6-7 advantage on face-offs.
Freshman Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) had a strong showing in the first 30 minutes of play, as he made 12 saves.
Pat Diorka opened the scoring in the second half to make it a 5-1 game.
Freshman Patrick Vaughn (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) answered 18 seconds later to put the score at 5-2.
The Spartans then went on a 4-0 run to extend their lead to 9-2.
Centre's offense picked it up in the fourth quarter of play, as freshman Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) recorded two goals to cut into the Spartans lead with 11:25 remaining in the game.
The Spartans went on to win the game 11-4 after Alec Downing scored twice.
Centre had 11 total shots in the third and fourth period. The Colonels also grabbed 20 ground-balls and went 12-15 on clear attempts. Aurora had 20 shots, 14 ground-balls, and they were successful on 12-14 clear attempts. Centre won seven of the 11 face-offs.
Brown finished the game with 19 saves, while Holka had four.
Freshman Jay Reed (Louisville, Ky.) and Brown each recorded four ground-balls. Krill went 3-6 on face-offs, Vaughn was 2-4, and freshman Charles Edwards (Louisville, Ky.) was 2-3. Stubbs, freshman William Elpers (Louisville, Ky.), and junior Jared Feuerstein (Alpharetta, Ga.) each had one caused turnover.
Meachum and Diorka each had three goals for the Spartans, while Andrew Miller posted eight ground-balls. Kyle Kaminsky recorded two caused turnovers.
