Hendrix tops Centre 14-9 in men's lacrosse match

The Centre men's lacrosse team tried to make a late second half comeback against Hendrix on Sunday, April 10, but the Colonels came up short falling 14-9 in Conway, Ark.

Hendrix was able to get on the board first, as Dan Fox was able to find the back of the cage at the 9:11 mark of the first period.

Freshman Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga.) tied the game up at 1-1 late into the first period of play.

The Warriors regained the lead when they went on a 3-0 run during the first five minutes of play in the second quarter.

Freshman Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky.) ended the Hendrix run when he was able to get the ball past Keith Clemens with 9:59 on the clock.

Hendrix answered by going on another 3-0 run during the next 5:56 of play to extend their lead to 7-2.

Stubbs picked up his second goal of the game on an unassisted shot at the 1:37 mark of the second period.

The Colonels went into halftime trailing the Warriors 7-3.

Centre had 13 shots, 20 ground-balls, and they went 10-16 on clear attempts in the first 30 minutes of play. Hendrix posted 24 shots, grabbed 27 ground-balls, while going 13-16 on clear attempts. The Colonels won 7-12 face-offs during the first two periods of action.

Freshman Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky.) had 10 saves in the first 30 minutes, while Clemens had six saves.

During the opening minutes of the second half Hendrix went on their fourth run of the game to build an 11-3 advantage over the Colonels.

Connors scored two goals in the last 15 seconds of the third period to cut the Warriors lead down to 11-5.

The Colonels were able to outscore Hendrix in the fourth quarter, including scoring the final three goals of the game, but it wasn't enough as the Warriors went on to win the game 14-9.

Centre finished the game with 36 shots, 37 ground-balls, and they went 20-28 on clear attempts. The Warriors had 42 shots, 54 ground-balls, and they were 24-32 on clear attempts. Centre won 12-26 face-offs.

Brown and Clemens each finished the game with 14 saves.

Connors posted five goals in the game on 10 shots. Stubbs recorded three assists. Freshman Patrick Vaughn (Signal Mountain, Tenn.) grabbed seven ground-balls and he went 9-20 on face-offs.

Sam Brisson led Hendrix in scoring with five goals on 10 shots. Ben Nelson had three assists on the afternoon. Tim Wojcik provided the Warriors with nine ground-balls and he went 11-20 on face-offs.

Next up for the Colonels will be a home conference game against Birmingham Southern on Sunday, April 17 in Danville, Ky. at 3:00 p.m.
