Box Score 2 The Centre baseball team struggled offensively in their first game against DePauw on Saturday, April 16 in Greencastle, Ind., as they fell 11-0. Centre is 13-19 on the season and 6-7 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following the game.
DePauw built up a 5-0 lead after two innings of play. Junior Joe Nash (Elizabethtown, Ky.) didn't allow a run in the third and fourth inning, allowing just four hits, but the Colonels were unable to take advantage offensively during that time.
The Tigers extended their lead to 9-0 in the fifth inning and they were able to earn two more runs in the sixth inning on their way to the 11-0 win.
Nash recorded the loss on the mound for Centre, following 4.1 innings pitched. He allowed 13 hits, nine runs, and two walks, while striking out one in 27 batters faced.
Senior John Clark (Lexington, Ky.) had one hit in two at bats, while senior Clay Bryan (Benton, Ky.) and senior Cory Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) were each walked once in two at bats.
Senior Steven Proctor (Springfield, Ga.) had six put-outs in the game and sophomore Aaron Ammann (Winnetka, Claif.) had three assists.
Ben Gardner finished the game with three hits, two RBI's, and two runs in three at bats. Rob McPike had three hits, one RBI, and two runs in three at bats, while also recording eight put-outs. Gardner also had three assists in the game, along with Hobs Donovan.
The second game of the double-header was stopped in the bottom of the fifth inning due to inclement weather, DePauw is currently ahead 9-4. The game will resume on Sunday, April 17 at 12:00 p.m. in Greencastle, Ind.
Centre will take on DePauw in the third and final game of the series on Sunday, April 17 following the conclusion of game two in Greencastle, Ind.
