Box Score The Centre baseball team finished their second game from Saturday, April 16 against DePauw University in Greenscastle, Ind. on Sunday, April 17, which was postponed due to inclement weather and the Colonels fell 11-4. The Colonels then played the Tigers in the final game of the three game series and fell 7-2.
During the postponed game the Colonels took the 1-0 lead in the second inning, following a double by freshman Jordan Burgess (Cincinnati, Ohio) to left center field, which scored freshman Cody Nelson (Joelton, Tenn.).
DePauw took over the lead in the bottom of the third inning, as they scored four runs to make it a 4-1 game.
Nelson made it a 4-2 game, as he hit a home run to start the fourth inning. Sophomore Aaron Ammann (Winnetka, Calif.) would single later in the inning through the left side to score Burgess. Sophomore Danny Freudiger (Mason, Ohio) then hit a single down the right field line, which allowed Ammann to advance home to tie the game at 4-4.
The Tigers regained the lead in the fifth inning after they picked up five runs to put the score at 9-4.
DePauw would make it an 11-4 game in the sixth inning. following two more runs.
Centre was unable to make a comeback and the Tigers went on to win the game 11-4.
Senior pitcher Andy Hagerman (Lexington, Ky.) recorded the loss for the Colonels. He pitched 1.2 innings allowing eight hits, five runs, while striking out one in 12 batters faced.
Freudiger finished the game with three hits and one RBI in five at bats. Senior Steven Proctor (Springfield, Ga.) had six put-outs, while senior Cory Crowdis (Louisville, Ky.) posted four assists.
Jason Cohen provided the Tigers with four hits, three RBI's, two runs, and was walked once in four at bats. Rob McPike had 11 put-outs and Ben Gardner had four assists.
In the third and final game of the series DePauw went ahead 4-0 after the first two innings.
Centre cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning. Senior John Clark (Lexington, Ky.) scored the first run for the Colonels on a ground out by Proctor. Ammann advanced home on the Colonels next at bat, as junior Cameron Fishman (Northridge, Calif.) singled up the middle.
The Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning, as they scored two additional runs to make it a 6-2 game.
DePauw then added another run in the fourth inning, while they were able to hold Centre scoreless during the remainder of the game to take the 7-2 win.
Crowdis took the loss on the mound for Centre. He pitched two innings, in which he allowed five hits, six runs, and walked one in 14 batters faced.
Ammann finished the game with two hits and one run in four at bats. Proctor had 10 put outs, while junior Jacob Plummer (Catlettsburg, Ky.) and Ammann each had four assists.
McPike had three hits and three RBI's in three at bats. He also posted 10 put-outs. Aaron Henry and Ben Gardner each had three assists.
