Playing in their second conference match of the day the Centre women's tennis team was able to knock off Austin College by a score of 7-2 in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, April 2. The Colonels improved to 5-4 on the season and to 1-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The Colonels went two for three in doubles play, as senior Karolyn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) won 8-4 in the number one doubles match.
Junior Katy Bender (Galena, Ohio) and senior Sarah Swauger (Fort Thomas, Ky.) were successful in the number three doubles match, as they beat Jessie Berger and Margaret Edwards 8-2.
Kathryn Hays, was also victorious in the number one singles match, winning in two sets by a score of 6-2 and 6-0.
Karolyn Hays won 6-2 and 6-4 in the number two singles match against Lizzie Flint.
Playing in the number three singles match for the Colonels was Bender, who pulled off a 6-1 and 6-4 win.
Sophomore Elise Decamp (Lexington, Ky.) helped Centre in the win, by taking the number four singles match 6-1 and 6-2 over Sophie McDonald.
Earning the final win for the Colonels was sophomore Lauren Dever (Portsmouth, Ohio) who beat Anne Booker in the number five singles match 6-2 and 6-2.
Next up for the Colonels will be a match against conference opponent Birmingham Southern on Sunday, April 3 at 8:00 a.m. in Atlanta, Ga.
