Heading into their Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tennis Tournament match against DePauw on Saturday, April 23 in North Little Rock, Ark., the Centre women's tennis team was on a 10 game winning streak, but the Colonels lost to the Tigers 8-1. The Colonels are playing as the #4 seed in the tournament, while DePauw is the #1 seed. Centre is 14-5 on the season following the loss to DePauw.
Junior Katy Bender (Galena, Ohio) and sophomore Lauren Dever (Portsmouth, Ohio) played a close match, in the number two doubles match, against Meg Crowley and Elizabeth Young, but the Colonels came up short falling 8-6.
Sophomore Elise Decamp (Lexington, Ky.) and senior Sarah Swauger (Fort Thomas, Ky.) also had a close match, as the number three team, but they fell 8-5.
Dever earned the Colonels only win, in the number four singles match. Cowley won the first set 6-4, but Dever recovered to take the second set 6-2 and the third set 10-7.
Next up for the Colonels will be a match on Sunday, April 24 at 8:00 a.m. in North Little Rock, Ark. against either Trinity or Sewanee, to determine who takes third and fourth place.
