The Centre men's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to conference opponent Birmingham Southern on Sunday, April 3 in Atlanta, Ga. The Colonels fell to 1-7 on the season and to 1-2 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Junior Ben Newstadt (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Xan Witherington (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) won the number one doubles match 8-3, knocking off Will Boucek and John Zukley.
Newstadt and Witherington also won their singles matches. Newstadt took the number one singles match in three sets, winning the first set 6-3, before falling 5-7 in the second set to Zukley. During the third set Newstadt won 10-8.
Witherington won in three sets as well, in the number two singles match. He fell 1-6 in the first set to Voges, before recovering to take the second set 6-1 and the third set 11-9.
Next up for the Colonels will be a match against Maryville College on Tuesday, April 5 at home in Danville, Ky. The match will start at 3:00 p.m.
