The Centre women's tennis team picked up their second straight conference win on Sunday, April 3 by beating Birmingham-Southern 6-3 in Atlanta, Ga. The Colonels are currently 6-4 on the season and 2-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Senior Karolyn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) had an 8-6 win in the number one doubles match, while junior Katy Bender (Galena, Ohio) and senior Sarah Swauger (Fort Thomas, Ky.) won by default in the number three doubles match.
Kathryn Hays beat Brittany Cooper 6-1 and 6-2 in the number one singles match.
Karolyn Hays had a challenging match, but she was able to come from behind to win in three sets. Emily Holst won the first set 6-4, before Hays went on to take the second set 6-4 and the third set 6-1.
Swauger won the number five singles match handily, winning 6-1 and 6-0 over Payton Gartman.
Senior Erin Sliney (Paris, Ky.) took the number six singles match for the Colonels by default.
The Colonels will next face Maryville College on Tuesday, April 5 at 3:00 p.m. at home in Danville, Ky.
