Centre women's lacrosse has seven selected to All-SCAC Team

The Centre women's lacrosse team had seven players named to the 2011 All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Team. Centre finished the season with an overall record of 11-6 and they went 2-2 in conference play.

Freshman Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) was chosen as the SCAC Offensive Co-Player-of-the-Year and she also made the 2011 All-SCAC Women's Lacrosse First Team. Mastey ended her first season with the Colonels ranked fifth in goals (75), ninth in goals per game (4.41), 11th in draw controls (5.0), and 15th in points (86.0). She was also ranked first in the conference in goals per game, points per game (5.06), game-winning goals (4), and shots per game (9.94). Mastey had 16 caused turnovers on the season.

Freshman Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) was named the 2011 SCAC Women's Lacrosse Co-Rookie-of-the-Year and she was selected to the All-SCAC Women's Lacrosse First Team. She completed her freshman season ranked eighth in the nation in goals (73) and 13th in goals per game (4.29). Hawthorne was second in the conference in goals per game, ground balls (3.12), shots per game (8.06) and man-up goals per game (0.24), as well as third in points per game (4.65).Hawthorne had 17 caused turnovers on the season, as well, for the Colonels.

Sophomore Annie Jonakin (Signal Mountain, Tenn.), along with freshmen Katy Cremer (Hudson, Ohio), Frances Fisher (Ijamsville, Md.), Claiborne Willis (Nashville, Tenn.), and Mary Friel (Affton, Mo.) were all named to the 2011 All-SCAC Women's Lacrosse Second Team.

Jonakin, who was second on the team in minutes played with 1614, had 12 goals and six assists. Defensively, she posted 25 ground balls and had seven caused turnovers. Jonakin also won 12 draw controls.

Cremer finished second in the conference in game-winning goals (0.12). She finished the season with 19 goals and two assists for a total of 21 points. Cremer also had 10 ground-balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers.

Fisher provided the Colonels with 24 goals, three of which were in man-up situations and one was in a man-down situation, she also had three assists to give her a total of 27 points. She also had 35 ground-balls, 43 draw controls, three caused turnovers during the 17 game season.

Willis, who played midfield for the Colonels, had six goals and one assist offensively and 23 ground-balls, as well as 14 draw controls and five caused turnovers.

Friel, helped lead the Centre defense, as she grabbed 21 ground balls, three draw-controls, while recording seven caused turnovers. The Colonels were second in the conference in goals against average (10.72) and faceoff percentage (.636).

The Colonels wrapped up their first season ranked third in the conference and received national attention, as they were featured in Lacrosse Magazine after starting the season 6-0.
