Box Score The Centre College field hockey team lost its first match of the season 4-0 to Christopher Newport University Saturday, Sept. 10 in Fredericksburg, Va.
The Colonels fell to 1-1 in the early going, while Christopher Newport improved to 2-1 on the season.
The Captains got two goals in each half. Lauren Cherry and Meghan Sullivan scored a goal each for a 2-0 halftime lead. Belle Tunstall had an assist on Sullivan's goal.
Hilary St. Mary and Marlene Lichty added a goal each in the second half for the final 4-0 tally. Chrissy Kurecki tallied an assist on St. Marry's goal.
Christopher Newport out-shot the Colonels 19-4 on the day and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners. Senior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) took the loss in goal for Centre. Cowley made five saves in the loss.
The Colonels will be back in action Sunday, Sept. 11. The Colonels will play Marywood University at 10 a.m. in Fredericksburg, Va.
