Reserves play to 1-1 draw at Asbury

Monday evening in Wilmore, Ky. the Centre Women's Reserve team completed its season with a 1-1 tie at Asbury University.

It appeared as if Asbury would draw first blood in the 35th minute when an Asbury attacker ripped a shot from 30 yards out that sailed high and fast towards Centre's goal. Junior goalkeeper Kristin White (Lancaster, Ohio) would make an incredible save on the play, however, pushing the ball into the crossbar that was cleared by Centre defender, Olivia Pardue (Elizabethtown, Ky.). White's save would be good enough to send the two teams into a scoreless halftime.

Only minutes into the second half, however, Centre would be fouled outside of the Eagles' penalty area. Sending the ball into a scrum of both Centre and Asbury players, first-year defender Rachel Geil (Lexington, Ky.) connected for the first goal of the night. Centre would continue creating opportunities for most of the half, but would be unable to finish. As the game neared the 74th minute, Asbury broke behind Centre's defensive line, sending a cross across the Colonels' penalty area. The ball would find two unmarked Eagles in front of Centre's goal, resulting in the uncontested equalizer. Centre would try to answer with the go-ahead goal, but as the final minutes of the match ticked away, the game concluded in a 1-1 tie.

Junior goalkeeper Kristin White faced five shots on the outing and recorded two saves.

"The effort by the team tonight was there and we fought hard for the result," reserve coach Jessica Chisley said. "Unfortunately, this game came down to opportunities and we did not capitalize on those we created. You have to give Asbury credit as they found a way to counter late in the match and catch us unbalanced in the back." Chisley added, "Though we only had two matches this season, there was a lot to be excited about. I'm very proud of our team and truly enjoyed the time and opportunity I had to work with them."
