Box Score Playing its second top 20 team in the last five days, the Centre College women's basketball team fell 76-48 to No. 5 Calvin College Saturday, Nov. 24 in Crestview Hills, Ky.
Senior Chelsea Benham (Taswell, Ind.) scored the first points of the game to give the Colonels an early 2-0 lead and then scored again to tie the game at 4-4 3:30 into the first half.
Calvin (4-1) answered with a 20-6 run to take a 24-10 lead, and extended the lead to 15 at 34-19 at the break.
The Knights opened the second half scoring the first ten points to make it 44-19, and never led by less than 16 points the rest of the way en-route to the 28-point victory.
The Colonels shot 36.7% (18-49) for the game, including only 2 of 14 (14.3%) from beyond the three-point arc.
Junior Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) led Centre again with 15 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Benham finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Carissa Verkaik scored a game-high 20 points along with six rebounds and five blocks. while Kayla Engelhard added 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The game was played as part of the Thomas More Classic. For her efforts in the two games, Baechle was named to the All-Classic Team.
Centre will return home Tuesday, Nov. 27 to host Hanover College in its final home game of 2012. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium.
