Win streak reaches five as Colonels defeat Cincinnati Christian University 60-47

The Centre College men's basketball team won its fifth straight game with a 60-47 win over Cincinnati Christian University Saturday, Dec. 29 in the Thomas More Tournament in Crestview Hills, Ky.

With the win, the Colonels improve to 7-2 overall, while Cincinnati Christian falls to 6-9 on the year.

Centre wasted little time building an 18-4 lead making seven of its first 10 shots through the first 6:25 of the game. The lead grew to 19 points when Collin Lopez (Louisville, Ky.) hit a three-pointer with 4:56 remaining in the opening period.

Cincinnati Christian scored the final six points of the first half, but still trailed 31-18 at the break.

The Golden Eagles then scored the first five points of the second half to cut the lead to 31-23, but that's the closest they would get the remainder of the way.

Centre pushed the lead back to double-digits for good when junior Donovan Whiteside (Knoxville, Tenn.) made a lay-up at the at the 12:28 mark.

The Colonels went on to lead by as many as 19 in the second half en-route to the 13-point neutral site victory.

Whiteside scored a game-high 13 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. He also had four assists and four steals in the win.

Senior guard Bryon Ellis (Russell Springs, Ky.) hit three three-pointer and finished with 12 points and five assists, while sophomore forward Josh Karsner (Frankfort, Ky.) added 11 points.

Nick Wake led the Golden Eagles with 12 points, and Kenny Gaynor finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds in the defeat.

Centre will return to action in 2013 with an SAA road contest against Millsaps College Friday, Jan. 4. Start time is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Jackson, Miss.
