The Centre women's lacrosse team won in dominant fashion Sunday, rolling to a 21-3 victory over Alma College at Farris Stadium.

The 21 goals set a new record for the young program, surpassing the previous high of 19 in a victory over Birmingham Southern last season. 

Nine different Colonels players found the net with five scoring multiple goals. Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the way with team highs of five goals, three assists, five draw controls and two ground balls. Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) added four goals and an assist while Claiborne Willis (Nashville, Tenn.) also scored four times.

The Colonels left little suspense in the contest by scoring five times in the first four minutes and going on to score the first 13 goals of the game. All five of Mastey's goals came during that stretch while Hawthorne added three and Emily Madden (Louisville, Ky.) two. Maddie Baker (Louisville, Ky.), Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Willis also scored goals in that time before Alma's Christie Havrilla scored twice late in the half to make the halftime score 13-2.

The second half brought more of the same. After Havrilla answered a Willis goal in the opening minutes, Centre rolled off the final seven goals of the game. Willis had three second half goals with Hawthorne and Powers each adding another to their totals. Anne Carole Preuss (Louisville, Ky.), Leandra Tafel (Louisville, Ky.) and Kaitlyn Lee (Owensboro, Ky.) also found the back of the net for the Colonels.

Overall, Centre outshot Alma 36-8 and held a 13-4 edge in draw controls. Lauren Esterle (Louisville, Ky.) made five saves in goal for Centre while Stephanie Herman stopped 15 shots for Alma. 

The victory brings the Colonels' record to 2-0 on the season. They return to action again Monday when they host Augustana in their third game in three days.
