Centre's Maggie Prewitt added to her list of postseason accolades Monday when she was named South Region Player of the Year by D3Hoops.com.
Prewitt, a senior point guard from Mount Sterling, Ky., becomes the first Centre women's basketball player to be named South Region Player of the Year, and also appears on the All-South Region First Team for the second year in a row.
Prewitt finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in scoring at 18.2 points per game and second in 3-point percentage at 40.4 percent while leading the league in assists with 6.4 per game and free throw percentage at 87.1 percent. Additionally, Prewitt posted seven double-doubles on the year and was one of only 12 players in Division III to record a triple double when she had 14 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists in a win over Southwestern on Jan. 20.
Prewitt helped lead the Centre women to the best record in school history at 26-4 along with SCAC regular season and tournament championships. The Colonels qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001, defeating Guilford and No. 9 Washington-St. Louis before eventually falling to Carthage in the Sweet Sixteen. Earlier in the month, Prewitt was named SCAC Tournament MVP, SCAC Player of the year for the second time and All-SCAC for the fourth time in her career.
For her career, Prewitt finishes third on Centre's all-time scoring list with 1,824 points while holding school career records in assists (536), steals (222), 3-pointers made (160) and free throw percentage (.835). Prewitt also goes down as the only men's or women's player in SCAC history to finish with 1,500 career points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
