Prewitt selected as First Team All-American

After helping lead the women's basketball team to a conference championship and the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, Centre's Maggie Prewitt continues to pick up postseason awards, the latest coming in the form of a First Team All-American selection by D3Hoops.com.

Prewitt, a senior point guard from Mount Sterling, Ky., becomes the third Centre women's player to earn First Team All-American honors and the first since Susan Yates in 1990. Prewitt achieves the first team selection after being named to the third team a year ago.

Prewitt finished second in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in scoring at 18.2 points per game and second in 3-point percentage at 40.4 percent while leading the league in assists with 6.4 per game and free throw percentage at 87.1 percent. Additionally, Prewitt posted seven double-doubles on the year and was one of only 12 players in Division III to record a triple double when she had 14 points, 17 rebounds and 12 assists in a win over Southwestern on Jan. 20.

Prewitt helped lead the Centre women to the best record in school history at 26-4 along with SCAC regular season and tournament championships. The Colonels qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001, defeating Guilford and No. 9 Washington-St. Louis before eventually falling to Carthage in the Sweet Sixteen. Earlier in the month, Prewitt was named South Region Player of the Year and First Team All-South Region. Within the conference, Prewitt was named SCAC Tournament MVP, SCAC Player of the Year for the second time and All-SCAC for the fourth time in her career.

For her career, Prewitt finishes third on Centre's all-time scoring list with 1,824 points while holding school career records in assists (536), steals (222), 3-pointers made (160) and free throw percentage (.835). Prewitt also goes down as the only men's or women's player in SCAC history to finish with 1,500 career points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists.
