The Centre men's lacrosse team returned to its winning ways by beating Piedmont College 19-7 on a very hot, humid day in Demorest, Ga.

 

Centre raced out to a 13-4 halftime lead and finished strong, winning each quarter of play. The Colonels compelted a hard fought game with a 19-7 victory. 

 

"We finally got back to basics at both ends of the field," Centre head coach Bert Severns said. "More importantly, we controlled 17 of 29 face-offs, won by Corey Krill (Louisville, Ky./Trinity), Patrick Vaughn (Signal Mountain, Tenn./Baylor) and Alex Anthony (Louisville, Ky./Manual). That will be a key element if we are going to be competitive against the top teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference." 

Coach Severns also praised the play of Centre's starting attack line of Zack Connors (Louisville, Ky./Trinity), Peter Murphy (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) and Connor Stubbs (Decatur, Ga./Decatur).

"They continued their progress towards becoming the best starting attacks in this region, each scoring 3 goals in today's game," Severns added. "We are finally putting together some of the missing elements that are necessary for us to be competitive in the conference. It is important that we continue our improvement since we open conference play on Friday in Colorado Springs, Colo." 

Clayton Brown (Louisville, Ky./Collegiate) was again very good in the goal and was relieved late the game by Bryce McCoy (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and Charles Treis (Cedar Grove, N.C./Orangeburg), allowing seven goals while recording seven saves in total as a group.

 

Centre's next game will be against Colorado College in Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday, March 23 at 4 p.m. (MST).
