The Centre men's tennis team split a pair of matches, defeating Oglethorpe 6-3 and falling 7-2 to Sewanee on a weekend trip to Sewanee, Tenn.
The Colonels began Saturday with the victory over Oglethorpe, sweeping the three doubles matches and splitting the six singles matches for the 7-3 win. Ben Newstadt (Louisville, Ky.) and Lucas Kelley (Maryville, Tenn.) won 8-4 in No. 1 doubles while Xan Witherington (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Trey Williamson (Nashville, Tenn.) followed with an 8-6 win in No. 2. Woody Rini (Richmond, Ky.) and Parker Lawson (Prospect, Ky.) closed out doubles play with an 8-1 victory in the No. 3 match.
Rini, Williamson and Kelley came back to also pick up victories in No. 3, 4 and 5 singles respectively.
The tables were turned Sunday as the Colonels found themselves trailing after dropping all three doubles matches. Though Williamson picked up a No. 4 singles win and Andrew Howard (Frankfort, Ky.) claimed a victory in the No. 6 match, Centre eventually fell 7-2.
Centre's record currently stands at 4-8 on the season. The Colonels will travel to face Maryville College on Thursday.
