The Centre women's tennis team lost twice in a weekend trip to Sewanee, Tenn., being edged 5-4 by Oglethorpe on Saturday before suffering a 9-0 sweep at the hands of No. 16 Sewanee on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Colonels split the six singles matches with Oglethorpe, but were unable to overcome a 2-1 deficit from doubles play. Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) and Elise DeCamp (Lexington, Ky.) teamed up to win 8-0 in No. 1 doubles for Centre's lone doubles victory, and DeCamp also picked up a 6-1, 6-0 singles win in No. 2.
Also winning singles matches for Centre were Melissa Springer (Cincinnati, Ohio), who won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 4, and Madeline Pitt (Louisville, Ky.), who won 6-3, 6-0 in the No. 6 match.
The Colonels had a tougher time of things on Sunday when they fell 9-0 to Sewanee, which is ranked 16th and has swept all four of its matches against SCAC teams.
The losses bring Centre's record to 0-7 going into a trip to Midway on Tuesday.
