The Centre men's tennis team opened up SCAC Tournament play with a 7-2 loss to Birmingham Southern on Friday in North Little Rock, Ark.
The fifth-seeded Colonels took just one of the three doubles matches and one of six singles from the fourth-seeded Panthers.
Centre's doubles win came from the team of Xan Witherington (Oak Ridge, Tenn.) and Trey Williamson (Nashville, Tenn.), who defeated Birmingham Southern's Christian Matthews and Michael Wilson 8-4 in the No. 2 match.
In singles, Woody Rini (Richmond, Ky.) pulled out the Colonels' only win with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-7 victory over Birmingham's Reed Pilling.
The loss drops Centre's record to 5-14 on the year while Birmingham Southern improves to 13-4. The Colonels next face eighth-seeded Millsaps at noon Saturday.
