Centre was well represented when the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference released its all-conference women's lacrosse teams Friday, as head coach Julie Beer was named tri-Coach of the Year, Emily Madden was named Freshman of the Year and seven players earned All-SCAC honors.

Beer earned the Coach of the Year honor along with Colorado College's Susan Stuart and Tracy Cepnio of Millsaps. In just the second year for lacrosse at Centre, Beer helped lead the team to a 13-5 overall record and a share of first place in the regular season SCAC standings at 4-1.

Madden, a freshman attacker from Louisville, Ky., led SCAC freshmen in every offensive category with 43 goals, 18 assists and 61 points.

On the strength of those statistics, Madden also was named to the All-SCAC First Team along with teammates Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) and Annie Jonakin (Signal Mountain, Tenn.). With four players selected to the first team, Centre tied Colorado College and Sewanee for the most of any SCAC school.

Hawthorne finished the season with 55 goals, 21 assists and 76 points, ranking in the top five in the conference in all of those categories while Mastey had 47 goals, 22 assists, 69 points and a team-leading 43 caused turnovers. Jonakin had 29 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and was an integral part of a defense that finished second in the conference in goals against with 8.61.

The Colonels placed another three athletes on the second team in Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Katy Cremer (Hudson, Ohio) and Frances Fisher (Ijamsville, Md.). Powers had 35 goals, nine assists and 44 points on the season while Cremer contributed 26 goals, seven assists and 33 points. Despite missing three games, Fisher picked up 34 ground balls, 28 draw controls and caused 13 turnovers.
