Box Score After dropping consecutive one-goal games, the Centre field hockey team bounced back in a big way by dominating from start to finish in a 10-0 victory at Bethany College on Saturday in Bethany, W.V.
Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.), Erin Bacon (Williamsburg, Va.) and Julie Gates (Louisville, Ky.) all scored two goals to lead the Colonels while Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) tallied four assists and Erin Mays (Louisville, Ky.) added three.
Centre scored five times in each half and took 39 shots to Bethany's five, putting 27 of those on cage. The Colonels also held an 11-2 edge in penalty corners.
Centre got on the board less than five minutes into the game when Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an assist by Mays. Hebert scored the next two goals, both on assists by Kuiper. Kuiper then assisted Bacon on a goal to make the score 4-0 before Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) scored on an assist from Ellie Carver (Pomfret, Conn.) just before the half.
As the second half opened, Centre added to its lead when Alex Ferrera (Louisville, Ky.) scored 10 minutes in. With the Colonels already holding a 6-0 lead, they went on another scoring spree, getting four goals in a stretch of less than eight minutes. Gates scored both of her goals during that span while also assisting Bacon on a goal before Julia Rogers (Spartanburg, S.C.) capped the scoring with five minutes left.
CeCe Lindsey made two saves in goal while picking up the win for Centre while Jacqueline Harrison had 12 stops for Bethany.
With the win, Centre improves to 2-4 on the year while Bethany falls to 1-5. The Colonels now return home where they will take on Bellarmine on Wednesday for Stick It To Cancer Night.
