Box Score The No. 12 ranked Centre College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Berry College in the first-ever Southern Athletic Association (SAA) game for both teams Saturday, Sept. 29 in Danville, Ky.
The game was also the 100th career victory for Jay Hoffman, who has a career record of 100-46-12 in nine years as head coach of the Colonels.
With just under 10 minutes to play in the opening half, sophomore Mariah Pohl (Winchester, Ky.) scored on a pass headed from senior Mary Taylor Kersey (Winchester, Ky.) past Blair Shupenko to give the Colonels a 1-0 lead.
The score remained that way until the 79:19 mark when freshman Alex Combs (Danville, Ky.) found the back of the net with a shot to make it 2-0.
Goalkeepers Megan Foley (Louisville, Ky.), Holly Hilton (New Palestine, Ind.) and the Centre defense did the rest as the Colonels posted their fourth straight shutout and sixth of the season. Foley stopped all three shots she faced in the victory.
Centre out-shot the Vikings (2-5, 0-1 SAA) 10-4 and had a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Colonels, now 9-0 overall and 1-0 in the SAA, will next host Millsaps College Friday, Oct. 5. Start time for the conference match is set for 6 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
