Box Score The Centre College women's basketball team hit eight three-pointers in the first half to build a 19-point lead and went on to finish with a 78-54 win over Berry College Sunday, Jan. 20 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels hit four three-pointers in the first 6:14 of the game, including two by senior Bridget Winstead (Franklin, Tenn.), to jump out to a 19-11 lead.
Mary Winstead made it an 11-point lead with a three of her own at the 13-11 mark, and Centre would push the lead to 20 when sophomore Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) nailed a three with 3:11 to play in the opening half.
The first half ended with the Colonels leading 47-28 and grew to a 21-point lead on Hartlage's lay-up to open the second half.
Berry (9-7 overall, 4-2 SAA) cut the lead to 53-39 with 15:14 remaining but was unable to get any closer as Centre stretched the lead to as many as 28 before finishing with the 24-point victory.
The Colonels hit eight of their 14 three-point attempts (57.1%) in the first half and ended the game 10 of 19 (52.6%) from long range.
Junior Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) posted game-highs with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Senior Chelsea Benham (Taswell, Ind.) had 13 points, four rebounds and three assists, and sophomore Hillary Moore (Hyden, Ky.) added 10 points off the bench.
Chanlir Segarra led Berry with 18 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Megan Walsh finished with 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench.
Centre has now won four straight games to improve to 7-9 overall and 5-1 in the SAA. The Colonels will next host Hendrix College Friday, Jan. 25. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
