Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 After beating nationally ranked Washington and Lee last night, Centre lost today to both Berry and Asbury, thereby equaling in one long day their losses for the entire season. The loss to Berry was particularly painful since the Colonels had been effectively tied for first with the Vikings in the Southern Athletic Association, where Centre is now six and two (and 14-4 in all matches). Tomorrow in what Head Coach
James Neyhouse described as a "'must win', if we have any realistic hope of catching Berry before tournament time", Oglethorpe invades at 1:00 P. M.
In the first contest, Berry snapped the Colonel's winning streak at eight, and won pretty routinely (13-25, 20-25, 21-25). Asbury also prevailed in three sets (22-25, 25-27, 17-25), but Centre did make the contest somewhat more interesting than their earlier effort.
Not incidentally, the Colonels will honor their four fine seniors prior to tomorrow's court action.
Catherine Janszen (Cincinnati, OH),
Kimberly Lownds (Evergreen, CO),
Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, TN), and
Kary Stivers (Louisville, KY) have all contributed mightily for several seasons. Together they are leaders of this year's team, which, before stumbling today, had won all but two of its 16 matches. Their careers now enter a stretch drive that Centre's faithful fans hope will secure the place of the 2013 "Gold" as, at the extreme least, one of their school's best.
