The Centre women's soccer team got a second half goal to top Berry 1-0 in the Southern Athletic Association opener for both teams Saturday in Rome, Ga.

The game-winner for the Colonels came in the 63rd minute when Lucy Yanckello (Oviedo, Fla.) scored her first collegiate goal. Goalkeeper Holly Hilton (New Palestine, Ind.) and the Centre defense kept Berry scoreless the rest of the way in posting their seventh shutout of the season.

Centre held a 10-8 edge in shots and an 8-2 advantage in corners. Hilton made four saves in goal while Melissa Sanchez had six stops for Berry.

With the win, Centre improves to 7-4-1 overall and opens SAA competition at 1-0 while Berry falls to 7-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference. The Colonels return to action Tuesday at Spalding.
