Centre's NCAA run comes to an end with 1-0 loss to No. 4 Christopher Newport

The Centre field hockey team's historic run came to an end with a 1-0 loss to No. 4 Christopher Newport in the NCAA Sweet 16 on Saturday in Newport News, Va.

Christopher Newport's Shelby Judkins scored the only goal of the game on a penalty stroke with less than a minute to go before halftime. 

With the loss, Centre wraps up the season at 16-5. The 16 wins are a school record, and the Sweet 16 appearance marks the farthest a Centre field hockey team has advanced in the postseason.

Christopher Newport took 17 shots to Centre's six in the game, and the Captains held a 13-3 edge in corners. Kirby Roberts (Louisville, Ky.) made eight saves in goal for Centre while Bailey Lien had four for Christopher Newport.

Christopher Newport advances to take on Catholic in an Elite Eight matchup on Sunday. Catholic was a 1-0 winner over DePauw in Saturday's second game.
