Box Score Senior running back Harry Meisner (Wyoming, Ohio) set single-game school records for rushing touchdowns and rushing yards as the Centre College football team earned a 49-20 win over Hendrix College on Homecoming Weekend Saturday, Nov. 2 in Danville, Ky.
The Colonels posted a season-high 612 yards of total offense with 491 of those coming on the ground. Meisner accounted for 254 rushing yards to set a new single-game school record breaking Todd Scobee's previous record of 237 set in 1985.
The Colonels led 14-0 after the first quarter as Meisner scored on runs of three yards and a yard. He then added a 52-yarder at the beginning of the second quarter to extend the lead to 21-0.
Freshman running back Amoh Kumengisa (Lexington, Ky.) got into the action with a nine-yard rushing touchdown with 8:54 remaining in the opening half to give the Colonels a 28-0 lead.
Hendrix quarterback Tanner Frye scored on a six-yard run to make it 28-7, but Meisner notched his fourth rushing score on a seven-yard run near the end of the half for a 35-7 halftime lead.
The second half saw Meisner break the school record for rushing touchdowns in a game when he crossed the goal line from three yards out early in the second half for his fifth of the game. Four rushing touchdowns in a game had been accomplished seven times in school history, with Monte Scotton last accomplishing the feat in 2011. The score also gave Meisner 15 for the season, which is now second in school history behind only Tim McDaniel's 21 in 1990.
Kumengisa tallied a 10-yard rushing touchdown later in the quarter before Hendrix (3-5 overall, 1-3 SAA) scored a pair of touchowns late for the final 49-20 tally.
In addition to Meisner's 254 yards, three other players rushed for at least 50 yards. Junior quarterback Heath Haden (Kingsport, Tenn.) threw for 117 yards and ran for another 85. Kemungisa had 78 yards, while freshman Casey Bradley (Acworth, Ga.) finshed with 59 yards.
The Centre defense also had a big day. Hendrix entered the game as the highest scoring team in the SAA, but the Colonels limited the Warriors to season lows in points (20) and total offensive yards (372).
Sophomore safety Sam Spees (Dayton, Ohio) led the team with eight tackles with five solos and three assists. He also assisted on a tackle for loss and returned an interception for 16 yards.
Centre, now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the SAA, will look to give head coach Andy Frye his 100th career win Saturday, Nov. 9 against Millsaps. Frye would become only the second coach in Centre football history to record 100 wins and trail only Joe McDaniel (101). Kick-off is set for 1 p.m. CST in Jackson, Miss.
