Box Score The Centre men's soccer team got a goal in the opening moments and kept Birmingham-Southern off the scoreboard the rest of the way to secure a 1-0 victory in the first round of the Southern Athletic Association Tournament on Friday in Conway, Ark.
The game winner came in just the third minute when Cameron Miller (Nicholasville, Ky.) scored on a double assist from Robbe Tarver (Houston, Texas) and Connor Reed (Newbury Park, Calif.). The goal was Miller's eighth of the season which leads the team and fifth game-winner, which leads the conference.
The SAA's top defense was again solid, as the Colonels held Birmingham-Southern to just two shots on goal. Centre posted its ninth shutout of the year and for the eighth straight game held its opponent to one or fewer goals.
The Colonels outshot the Panthers 15-5 in the game and held a 9-4 edge in corners. Ohan Missirian-Dill made two saves in goal for Centre while Jonas Heidrich made three for Birmingham-Southern.
Centre improves to 9-5-3 on the season while Birmingham-Southern ends the year at 9-8-1. The Colonels advance to meet No. 1 seed Millsaps on Saturday at 1 p.m.
