Box Score The Centre men's basketball team fell to Asbury 87-81 in a non conference game Tuesday night in Wilmore, Ky.
Despite a game-high 22 points from Josh Karsner (Frankfort, Ky.) off the bench with another 17 points from Collin Lopez (Louisville, Ky.) and 15 with 10 rebounds from Donovan Whiteside (Knoxville, Tenn.), the Colonels fell short. Kyle Lamb led five Asbury players in double figures with 22 points.
The game was close throughout with seven ties, 14 lead changes and neither team holding a double digit lead.
Centre fell behind early when the Eagles went on a 14-3 run to turn a 8-4 lead into an 18-11 deficit. Asbury would push that lead to as many as nine points on a Jordan Gilbert 3-pointer just inside the 4:00 mark before halftime.
After going to the break down 41-36, the Colonels battled back with a 14-4 run early in the second half to take the lead and go up by as many as four points on two occasions. The game would remain close the rest of the way until Asbury outscored the Colonels 10-2 over the last two minutes of the game.
Asbury shot 29-of-62 (47 percent) from the field and 10-of-21 (48 percent) from 3-point range while Centre shot 30-of-68 (44 percent) overall and 10-of-31 (32 percent) from outside. Asbury held a 43-40 rebounding advantage and turned the ball over nine times to the Colonels' 12.
Centre drops to 4-2 on the season while Asbury improves to 5-2. The Colonels travel to Brescia on Thursday.
