Box Score For the first time since the second game of the season, the Centre College women's basketball team is back to .500 as the Colonels defeated Berry College 72-50 Sunday, Feb. 3 in Rome, Ga.
With the win, Centre has now won seven of its last eight to improve to 10-10 overall and 8-2 in the SAA, while Berry falls to 10-10 overall and 5-5 in league action.
The Colonels jumped out to a 14-5 lead through the first 4:35 and pushed the lead to as many as 23 points before taking a 46-25 lead in the locker room at halftime.
While limiting the Vikings to only 26.5% (9-34) shooting in the first half, Centre shot 60.0% (21-35) to build a 21-point lead. Junior Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) had a big half making eight of her 10 shots to score 16 points and grab eight rebounds.
Things didn't get any better for Berry in the second half. The Colonels stretched the lead to as many as 31 en-route to the 22-point victory.
Ten different players got into the scoring column for Centre led by Baechle's 22 points, 14 rebounds, five assists and two steals. Sophomore Maggie Hartlage (Louisville, Ky.) had 11 points and three assists and senior Chelsea Benham (Taswell, Ind.) came up one point and one rebound shy of a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Chanlir Segarra scored 20 points and had four rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes to lead Berry. Tara Mullinax also finished in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Colonels look to continue their strong play Friday, Feb. 8 when they host Birmingham Southern. The SAA contest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. in Alumni Gymnasium in Danville, Ky.
