The Centre women's tennis team picked up its first victory of the season, defeating Bloomsburg 6-3 in a match Wednesday in Hilton Head, S.C.
Centre took the victory by taking five of the six singles matches after winning just one doubles match.
The lone doubles victory came from the No. 1 team of Kathryn Hays (Lexington, Ky.) and Lauren Dever (Portsmouth, Ohio), who defeated Bloomsburg's Aida Diop and Lindsay Tennis 8-1.
In singles, Centre took the No. 1-5 matches with Hays winning 6-1, 6-2 in No. 1 and Dever winning 6-1, 6-0 in No. 2. Katie Howard (Frankfort, Ky.) swept the No. 3 match 6-0, 6-0 while Abby Tudor (Richmond, Ky.) won 6-2, 6-4 in No. 4 and Maddie Pitt (Louisville, Ky.) pulled out a 3-6, 6-4, 10-3 win in No. 5.
The Colonels improve to 1-5 on the year and will conclude play on the spring break trip when they take on Kutztown on Thursday.
