Box Score Two days after winning a game in extra innings, the Centre College baseball team found itself on the opposite end of another extra inning game as the Colonels fell 7-5 in 10 innings to No. 22 Birmingham Southern Friday, March 29 in Danville, Ky.
Centre fell behind early as senior starting pitcher Joe Nash (Elizabethtown, Ky.) allowed a three-run home run to right field in the first innings.
The Colonels answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of runs as sophomore Trey Litsey (Louisville, Ky.) doubled home freshman Sam Spees (Dayton, Ohio), and freshman Jake Johnson (Louisville, Ky.) singled home Litsey to cut the lead to 3-2.
The Panthers added a run in the fourth and held a 4-2 lead until the sixth when Johnson scored junior Kyle Cook (Maineville, Ohio) on a ground out to make it 4-3.
Centre took the lead in the seventh. Junior Chris Duzyk (Mt. Sterling, Ky.) reached on an error and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Senior Aaron Ammann (Winnetka, Calif.) followed with a single to put runners on first and third. Ammann stole second and then scored behind Duzyk on Spees' two-run single to go in front 5-4.
Birmingham Southern tied the game in the top of the ninth on a double play ground out and then scored twice in the top of the 10th to finish with the 7-5 victory.
