Box Score The Centre women's lacrosse team picked up a victory in its first home game of the season, defeating Birmingham-Southern 14-5 on Friday in Danville, Ky.
Sarah Mastey (Chattanooga, Tenn.), Audrey Powers (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Jacqueline Anderson (Louisville, Ky.) scored three goals each to lead the Colonels, who improve to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in Southern Athletic Association competition.
Centre took control quickly in the game, going up 3-0 in the early moments on goals by Anderson, Powers and Mastey. Though Birmingham-Southern answered with a score of its own, the Colonels rolled off five straight to go into halftime with an 8-1 lead.
Centre opened the second half with three more goals, extending the lead to 11-1. After a BSC goal, the Colonels scored twice more to build the lead to its highest point at 13-2. With the game well in hand, the Panthers scored three of the last four to arrive at the 14-5 final.
In all, six Colonels found the net with Meg Hawthorne (Cary, N.C.) and Katy Cremer (Hudson, Ohio) each scoring twice and Anne Carole Preuss (Louisville, Ky.) scoring a single goal. Anderson and Cremer also had assists in the game.
Centre's Allison Eisner (Louisville, Ky.) made five saves in goal while Birmingham-Southern's Rachael Bragg made five stops. Centre outshot the Panthers 34-16 while holding a 14-6 advantage in draw controls.
Birmingham-Southern (2-4, 0-3 SAA) will take on Carthage at 11 a.m. Saturday in Danville, followed by Centre hosting Carthage at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
