The Centre men's basketball team went up early and never looked back in defeating Berry 91-73 in a Southern Athletic Association game Sunday in Rome, Ga.

Centre saw 12 players score and six reach double figures in a balanced attack led by 16 points from Blake Scinta (Louisville, Ky.). Tyler Wesley (Crestwood, Ky.) had 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks while Donovan Whiteside (Knoxville, Tenn.), Collin Lopez (Louisville, Ky.) and Matt Gump (Bellefontaine, Ohio) each had 11 points. Ryan Murray (Springboro, Ohio) also chipped in 10 points for Centre while Mac Whalen led Berry with 14.

After Berry opened the scoring on a free throw, Centre took the lead for good by scoring the next 13 points. When Berry pulled within single digits for the last time at 15-6, the Colonels answered with a 12-2 run to pull away. 

The Colonels also came up with another 11-1 surge later in the half and would build the lead to 47-25 by halftime. The second half brought more of the same as an early 12-0 spurt gave Centre its biggest lead at 61-28 after a layup by Lopez with 17:41 to play.

Centre shot 55 percent (29-of-53) overall for the game, including a blistering 67 percent (14-of-21) in the first half. The Colonels held Berry to just 33 percent (25-of-76) shooting. Berry held a 49-44 rebounding advantage.

The Colonels move to 13-3 overall, 6-0 in SAA competition and increase their winning streak to seven games with the win. Berry drops to 3-14 overall and 0-6 in league play. Centre travels to Hendrix on Friday, followed by a trip to Rhodes on Sunday.
