Box Score After suffering its first Southern Athletic Association loss, the Centre women's basketball team bounced back in its next game, picking up a 66-49 win at Hendrix on Friday in Conway, Ark.
Paige Baechle (Gallatin, Tenn.) led the Colonels with 20 points while Alexis Guy (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) added 16 and Mary Gordon Stough (Louisville, Ky.) chipped in 14 points with 10 rebounds. Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led Hendrix with 13 points.
Hendrix took an early 3-0 lead, but Centre came back with an 18-2 run over the next six minutes and never trailed the rest of the way. Hendrix briefly got back within striking distance when it cut the margin to 26-18 on a Kriesel-Bigler 3-pointer with 6:22 left in the first half. However, the Colonels scored the next 13 points to go up by as many as 21 before taking a 39-20 lead to halftime.
Centre kept the lead in double digits the rest of the way, going on to lead by as many as 22 points at 65-43 after a pair of free throws by Guy just inside the 4:00 mark.
The Colonels shot 43 percent (23-of-54) overall while holding Hendrix to 30 percent (17-of-57) shooting and held a 43-35 rebounding advantage. Centre turned the ball over just five times while the Warriors had eight turnovers.
With the win, Centre improves to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in SAA play while Hendrix falls to 7-11 overall and 1-6 in the conference. The Colonels continue their road trip when they travel to Rhodes on Sunday.
