Box Score The Centre women's soccer team hosted the Berry Vikings in their first home conference match of the 2014 campaign. Despite holding the advantage in shots and shots on goal, the Colonels could not get on the scoreboard, falling by a score of 3-0.
Berry came out aggressively with five shots in the first 12 minutes of play. The Vikings scored their first goal of the contest at nearly 14 minutes in. Centre controlled possession for the remainder of the first half, but could not get a ball past the Berry keeper as they went to halftime down 1-0.
The Colonels were the aggressors to begin the second half as they outshot the Vikings 13-3 in the final frame. Still the first goal of the match eluded Centre as Berry hung tough defensively. At the 77-minute mark, Berry scored their second goal as the Vikings connected on a header off of a corner kick. Centre attempted another barrage of shots, but yet again they failed to convert, and with less than three minutes remaining, Berry scored another goal off a header, this time on a free kick to provide the final 3-0 margin.
Anne Mitchell (Fayetteville, Ark.) and Katie Upton (Danville, Ky.) each paced Centre with four shots against Berry. Mitchell, Upton and Elizabeth Mason (Lawrenceburg, Ky.) combined for six of Centre's nine shots on goal, recording two apiece. Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) stopped three shots in goal for Centre, while Berry keeper saved all nine shots she faced.
The next match for the Colonels will be a Tuesday evening contest as they play host to Spalding on Oct. 14th at 7:00 PM.
