Box Score The Centre volleyball team fell 3-0 to Birmingham-Southern in a Southern Athletic Association match Sunday in Birmingham, Ala.
The loss was Centre's third straight, dropping the Colonels to 7-13 overall while bringing them below .500 in SAA competition at 3-4. Birmingham-Southern improves to 15-6 overall and 6-1 in the conference.
Centre got off to a strong start by taking an 18-12 lead in the first set, but the Panthers would take control of the set and the match from there. BSC scored four straight points to pull back within two at 18-16, and then went on to win the set 27-25.
The Panthers were able to pull away in each of the final two sets, winning 25-12 and 25-18 to claim the match.
Beth Cecil (Bardstown, Ky.) led the Colonels with 16 kills while adding 12 digs. Erin McGrath (Louisville, Ky.) had a team-high 13 digs while Elizabeth Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Centre with 30 assists. Lynsie Byrd topped BSC with 14 kills while Lauren Bedford recorded 14 digs, including the 1,00th of her career.
The Colonels are back on the court at home when they host Berry at 7 p.m. on Friday.
